On Monday, 4 November 2024, the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO), host of the OAD, organised the first Employee Recognition Awards. The event celebrated outstanding achievements and long-standing service among NRF-SAAO staff, with awardees recognised for their exceptional contributions across various fields.
Two members of the OAD team received awards

Honoured for her exceptional organisational skills and project management, making significant contributions to the success of the IAU General Assembly 2024 through her proactive approach and professionalism - Kevin Govender – Management and Leadership Excellence
Recognised for his outstanding leadership at the OAD and his role in the success of the IAU General Assembly 2024. His inclusive approach has fostered a culture of collaboration and trust within the organisation.
Kevin is the founding Director of the OAD, and has led the organisation since its launch in 2011. Nuhaah is the second-longest serving member of the team, and manages our office administration and logistics.
