The Office of Astronomy for Development participated in the Under One Sky global conference organised by Dark Sky international. With more than 1000 registered participants, the conference covered a wide range of topics from wildlife ecologists discussing the impact of light pollution on marine environments to tourism experts in the Middle East emphasizing the economic importance of dark skies.
OAD’s Joyful Mdhluli shared our inspiring work on “Astronomy for Mental Health.” This initiative explores how astronomy and dark skies can support mental well-being. By connecting people to the cosmos, we are trying to uncover new ways to inspire hope and improve mental health through the beauty of the night sky.
In addition, Samyukta ran a workshop on Darksky tourism engagement, introducing participants to the principles of astrotourism and dark sky conservation, showcasing the economic and environmental benefits of these practices.
