First Phase of Women AstroPreneurs Collective Underway in India

The CWAPC Women AstroPreneurs Collective project successfully completed the orientation program for their trainees which included a pre-competency survey with participants.

The project aims to integrate first-generation female graduates into the workforce by equipping them with skills needed to produce astronomy products, and foster entrepreneurship among women. Ultimately, the project team aim to empower women to excel in traditionally male-dominated technical fields.

The initial phase of telescope construction workshops and industry visits were completed. Additionally, the team organized a special session on HAM Radio and Satellite Communications, which was well received by the participants.

  • Lectures on telescope construction
  • Hands-on training assembling the CSTERC Hexon Telescope
  • Live celestial observations
  • Deep dive into Ham Radio with practical sessions on satellite tracking
  • Industrial visit for telescope manufacturing

Regular one-on-one meetings with participants help to understand their individual needs and provide personalized support. Notably, around 50% of the participants have expressed interest in launching their own business enterprises.

The baseline survey assessed participants’ existing skills, perceptions, and learning goals providing valuable insights into their strengths, skill gaps, and training needs. By adjusting the CWAPC training program based on these findings, the initiative will maximize its impact and empower participants with future-proof skills.
