DARA Big Data, in conjunction with the University of Mauritius (UOM), IAU OAD and IDIA, are organising a Big Data School and Hackathon event, from June 21-24 on campus at the UOM.
The event will feature presentations from industry experts, tutorials in data science and machine learning and a sentiment analysis hackathon where participants can develop their skills further and compete in teams of 4 for prizes.
The event is free and open to Mauritian students and young professionals with a keen interest in data science. However there are limited places available, so a selection process will be used to award place. Participants will need to have at least a basic working knowledge of Python. Women in particular are encouraged to apply.
Social distancing, mask wearing and other safety measures must be observed on campus to keep tutors and participants safe. Most days will run approximately from 8.30am to 4.30pm; participants MUST be able to get to and from UOM (both the Reduit and the Ebene campuses) during the week and MUST commit to attending each day in full. Catering will be provided. Start and finish times will be confirmed in due course. Certificates of attendance will be issued to everyone who takes part.
The deadline for registration is 5pm on Friday May 27.
