- Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSS) took part in the largest public exhibition, ICT EXPO ETHIOPIA 2018, from June 30 to July 4. ESSS engaged with popularization of Space Science by showcasing technologies in space science and technologies that are boosting the digital transformation.
- Life in the Universe workshop for senior high-school students was held in July 2018 in Guangzhou, China
- “Two red heavenly bodies”, a high-school student adventure in Kalemayi, Xinjiang Autonomous Region (near the Kazakhstan border), focusing on regional science development during the simultaneous total lunar eclipse and the opposition of Mars
- Live interactive internet broadcast sponsored by the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on science, science career development, and science for development
- Science development mission to remote rural regions in Mongolia, focused on stimulating science education and interest amongst children in nomadic settlements, with astronomical outreach activities
- Michelle Willebrands, an intern from the European ROAD, spent 2 months at the OAD in Cape Town working on implementation plans for this new Regional Office
- Activities have started for 100th Anniversary of Eddington@Sundy
- Brasil, Cape-Verde, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe organized lunar eclipse observations on 27 July 2018
- PLOAD was presented at “Ciência 2018 – Encontro com Ciência e Tecnologia em Portugal”, in Portugal, and at “XIII Reunión Científica de la Sociedad Española de Astronomía” in Spaine
- NARIT, host of South East Asian ROAD, and Rizal Technological University co-organized the first Astronomy & Astrophysics: Data Research Analytics Workshop during 15 – 16 August 2018 in the Phillipines
- The annual “Optical Design Summer School” was held during 5 – 10 August with 25 international attendants worldwide. This year, once again, the school was organized by ITCA UNESCO, under NARIT
- ITCA Colloquium 2018 “NARIT-VNSC Astronomy and Astrophysics Workshop” was held 23-27 August, 2018 at Nha Trang University in Nha Trang, Vietnam
- Fifth Byurakan Science Camp (5BSC) for school children was held from July 3-9, 2018. The 6th Byurakan International Summer School (6BISS), was held in September 2018 with 32 participants from 11 countries, including SWCA ROAD countries
- Sona Farmanyan from SWCA ROAD participated as an invited speaker in the 3rd International Focus Workshop “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy- Inclusion and intercultural aspects in astro-tourism activities”
- President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Armen Sargsyan visited the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory
- IAU South West and Central Asian (SWCA) 2nd Regional Workshop with participation of representatives from Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkey
- A regional Go-Lab workshop will be conducted from 10-14 December 2018 on the use of online labs and resources. This will be facilitated by Rosa Doran from Portugal.
- WAROAD carried out a lot of outreach activities for schools and also facilitated school excursions to the National Space Research and Development Agency.
- World Space Week was celebrated with activities featured a lot of programs for kids, such as Space Quiz competition.
- Nigeria celebrated International Observe the Moon Night on 20th of October. This event was extensively reported by one of Nigeria’s biggest TV stations.
- A Science Communication and Astronomy Outreach Workshop was held from October 12 – 14, 2018 for a group of ten DARA students at Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute. They will conduct astronomy outreach in selected schools in Accra from October 18 – December 15, 2018.
