South Africa will be hosting the G20 science ministers in September and we have the opportunity to share your voice at this event.
Astronomy is not only a critical scientific endeavour but an important tool to drive positive change in our world. Through this opportunity, we would like to create a lasting impression upon the ministerial delegates of the immense popularity of astronomy, the diversity of our communities, the strength of our collaborations, and the impact of astronomy on people and the planet.
If you would like your voice to be heard, please send us a brief (30-60 second) video containing a message for these science ministers and their delegations. This could be a message about what astronomy means to you and your community, a suggestion about what you would like the G20 ministers to do for astronomy in their countries/globally, or even a story or anecdote about the power of astronomy for development. The content of the video is completely up to you but should generally align with an overarching theme of “Astronomy for a Better World“. We will publish all videos online and share it with the G20 delegations, but a few selected clips will be edited into a short compilation that will be shown at the G20 Science Ministers event.
Technical requirements
- Video should be in as high a resolution as possible, and in landscape format (especially if using a mobile device)
- Your recording can be in any language but please send the translated English text (that we will add as subtitles on the video)
- Files should be in video format, preferably MP4
- Please bear in mind what is in the background of the video and whether that may distract in any way from your message
- Ensure that you obtain the relevant permissions or consent for any of the content as the videos will be shared publicly
Submit your video on the form below or at this link. If you experience any issues please contact info@astro4dev.org for assistance.
We hope that you will use this opportunity to let your voice be heard by some of the most influential people in science globally.
