The Molo Mhlaba Astro Festival marked the celebration of the IAU Astronomy Day in Schools, attended by female students from four of our partner schools – Chumisa, Luleka, Molo Mhlaba, and Sophumelela. Performances by our Astro Clubs, the opportunity to mingle with astronomers to discuss careers in astronomy and learn about South African instruments – and planet face-painting and bakesale!!
The event was attended by Nemaungani Takalani, Astronomy Director at the Department of Science and Innovation; Kevin Govender, Director of the Astronomy for Development – OAD; and Palesa Nombula, Commercialisation Young Professional at SARAO and MSc Astrophysics Candidate at UWC Astrophysics Group
