Kevin Govender, Director of the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development, moderated a panel discussion at a recent gathering of G20 science delegations in South Africa. The event was organised by the South African Department of Science Technology and Innovation (DSTI), Square Kilometre Array Organisation (SKAO) and South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO), under the auspices of the South African Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Prof. Blade Nzimande, at the MeerKAT & SKA-Mid site in the Northern Cape. It was attended by the G20 Ministers of Science and Technology.
The panelists were Prof. Michele Dougherty (Science and Technology Facilities Council CEO & UK Astronomer Royal), Dr. Phil Mjwara (Former Director General of DSTI and UNESCO Ambassador), Isaac Magolego (SARAO Human Resource Development recipient PhD), and Prof Jessica Dempsey (Director General ASTRON).
