The OAD is delighted to officially welcome Dr. Charles Takalana in his role as our new Deputy Director, effective May 1, 2024.
Prior to joining the OAD, Dr. Takalana served as the Head of Secretariat for the African Astronomical Society (AfAS). In this role, he supported the Executive Committee, as well as various committees and Working Groups within AfAS. He efficiently managed the secretariat, ensuring seamless execution of all administrative functions. Dr. Takalana also played a key role in coordinating strategic projects and initiatives, engaging stakeholders, and overseeing communication efforts to promote AfAS activities both across Africa and globally.
Dr. Takalana has held the position of Head of Secretariat at AfAS since April 2021 until April 2024. He will continue in this role as Interim Head of Secretariat until August 2024 while transitioning to his new position at the OAD as Deputy Director. Dr. Takalana is no stranger to our family, and we eagerly anticipate the contributions he will bring to the OAD.
